Leica has announced two full-frame ultra-wideangle lenses for the L-mount: the Super Vario Elmarit SL 14-24mm F2.8 ASPH and the Super Apo Summicron SL 21mm F2.

Leica has given only limited details beyond the basic specs, but says the two ultrawides are suited to landscape, architecture and astrophotography.

The 12-24mm F2.8 is a fast ultrawide zoom for the L-mount system, allowing its use on cameras from Panasonic and Sigma, as well as Leica’s own SL models. It’s designed to complement the existing Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–70 f/2.8 ASPH standard zoom.

It features 18 elements in 13 groups and can focus down to 0.28m (11″) across its entire zoom range, giving a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:7.4. It has a rear filter holder and an integrated lens hood. It’s designed to be dust and splash resistant and features a ‘Hydrophobe Aqua-Dura’ coating on its front and rear elements, to keep moisture at bay.
